Brass die castings provide an efficient and economical method to obtain intricate brass components with complex shapes and close tolerances. Brass die castings will required very little or no machining to achieve a finished component. The die casting process allows for rapid production of tens of thousands of complex, thin wall, strong, and dimensionally accurate components. Brass die castings can be produced with very smooth or textured surfaces, and can be easily plated.

Brass die castings have excellent dimensional accuracy, 0.005" for the first inch (0.1mm for the first 2.5cm) and 0.002" for each additional inch (0.05mm for each additional cm). Die castings can have very smooth as cast surfaces, 40 to 100 RMS, and be made with thin walls, approximately 0.05" (1.3mm), with weights normally 1 oz (30 g) to 10 Lbs (4.5 kgs) or less.

Brass Die Casting

There are some limitations to brass die castings. The part weight is usually limited to 10 Lbs (4.5 kgs) or less, and smaller than 24" (600mm). There is also a higher initial tooling cost compared to other casting methods and since Brass has the highest melting point of the alloys most commonly used in die casting, the cycle life of the dies will be shorter. A certain amount of porosity is also common.
