. ZINC DIE CASTINGS CAST - MACHINED - FINISHED Zinc die castings provide an efficient and economical method to mass produce zinc components with complex shapes and close tolerances. Zinc die castings will require little or no secondary machining. The die casting process allows for rapid production of tens of thousands of complex, light weight, and dimensionally accurate (+/-0.005") components. Zinc die casting can be produced with very smooth, (40 to 100 RMS) , textured, or even with a distinctive pattern, image, or logo. The dies for zinc die castings normally have a life of 1,000,000 cycles if the die is properly maintained. This life cycle is about ten times more than aluminum die castings due to the lower pour temperature of zinc. Zinc is the easiest alloy to cast, and is normally used for smaller items that require high ductility and high impact strength, like door handles, parts for toys, and sink faucets. |

There are some limitations to zinc die castings. Zinc die castings can be up to 75 Lbs (34 kgs), but the vast majority are under one pound. There is a higher initial tooling cost compared to other casting methods, but the dies for zinc die castings have a much longer life cycle than dies used with other higher pour temperature alloys. Also a certain amount of porosity is common.
